Christine Hurst

Former Senior Coroner's Officer with 23 years experience, former Senior lecturer at Teesside University where I assisted my colleague Debbie Large in the development and delivery of three accredited training courses for coroner's officers.

I am a founder member of the COASA which was formed in 1997. Over the years, I have held the position of Treasurer, Deputy Chair and Chair. I have represented the COASA  and its members at Government level, attending  meetings with the different Government departments who, over the years have had responsibility for the Coroner Service. In relation to the Death Certification reforms in England and Wales, I gave evidence on the role of the coroner's officer and the lack of formal training and resouces, to the Shipman Inquiry, Luce Review and a Department for Constitutional Affairs Select Committee

Although I am now retired as a coroner's officer, I am still involved in the training of coroner's officers.  I remain passionate about the service and feel it is very important to give a voice to those working within the service.
